RETRACTABLE CARBON FIBRE TARGETS FOR MEASURING BEAM PROFILES AT THE SLC COLLISION POINT G. BOWDEN, D. BURKE and C. FIELD
نویسنده
چکیده
Retractable targets of carbon fibres with nominal diameters of 30, 7 and 4.5 Wm have been in use at the collision point of the SLC (the SLAC Linear Collider) . The target mechanism is compatible with the Mark II detector now in place at the collision point. Beam profiles are measured in horizontal and vertical axes by using magnetic dipoles to scan the beams across the fibres . Two signal detection mechanisms are available. Electron emission from the fibres is measured with the help of charge-sensitive amplifiers . Bremsstrahlung from the fibres is detected by downstream counters . Examples of measurements are given, and limits on the use of the techniques are discussed.

متن کاملMONITORING THE BEAM F ’ CXJTlON IN THE SLC JNTERACTJON REGION
The Stanford Linear Collider requires special Beam Position Monitors near the Interaction Point (JP) to bring the two beams (e+ and e-) into collision. These beams pass through two monitors on each side of the JP with a short time separation (about 20 and SOns). The mechanics of the monitors as well as the electronics will be described. Jn order to bring beams of several microns diameter into c...

A beam profile monitor based on the use of carbon fibres is described. It has been designed to be compatible with the operation of the Mark II particle detector at the SLC, I including high resolution secondary vertex detectors mounted 25 mm radially from the beam. f Thin wire or fibre probes are in use at many accelerators to allow the measurement of beam profiles and positions [l]. In particu...
متن کاملA Monitor for Gamma Radiation at Zero Degrees from the Slc Collision
Bremsstrahlung gamma rays are emitted in a narrow forward cone while ... -. the electron and positron beams are being measured with carbon fibers at the SLC (the linear collider at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center). Beam-beam deflections which occur at the collision point also emit softer gamma rays, called beamstrahlung. A device to detect these gammas is described. It has a converter to...
متن کاملPulse-by-pulse Energy Measurement at the Stanford Linear Collider*
The Stanford Linear Collider (SLC) collides a beam of electrons and positrons at 92 GeV. It is the first colliding linac, and produces Zo particles for High-Energy Physics measurements. The energy of each beam must be measured to one part in lo4 on every collision (120 Hz). An Energy Spectrometer in each beam line after collision produces two stripes of highenergy synchrotron radiation with cri...
